COLOURS AND MEMORIES

Richard Rees

October 2025

Richard Rees is a British artist and the President of the UK Pastel Society. Marking his first exhibition in Malta, this vibrant collection reflects Rees’s long-standing fascination with the island and its distinctive architectural character, alongside works inspired by other European cities. A trained architect who turned to painting full-time after a distinguished international career, Rees brings to his art an acute understanding of form and structure while celebrating the emotional resonance of place through colour and atmosphere. His expressive depictions of Valletta’s rooftops, the domes of Mdina, and the golden bastions of Fort St Angelo capture the island’s light and rhythm with rare sensitivity. Moving between representation and abstraction, Rees’s work transforms familiar views into luminous studies of memory, space, and experience.
